Why Soft Washing Is Safer for Render Cleaning
Soft washing is the safe alternative to pressure washing. Instead of blasting render with force, we use a low-pressure system that blends sodium hypochlorite, water, and a biodegradable surfactant.
Unlike pressure washing, soft washing won’t damage delicate finishes or drive water behind the render. It sanitises the surface and breaks down organic growth at the root, meaning cleaner walls that stay clean for longer.
The most common mix we use is 97% water, 2% sodium hypochlorite, and 1% soap, carefully adjusted based on the render’s porosity.

How to Book Your Render Cleaning
1. Fill in our short Request Form with your full address and, if possible, upload a few photos of the render.
2. We’ll arrange a convenient time to visit your property, carry out a porosity test, and prepare a written quotation.
3. Once you’re happy to proceed, a 30% deposit confirms the booking on a mutually agreed date.
4. Our team will arrive by 8am on the scheduled day to begin the soft wash treatment and surface sanitisation.
Please note: Paint, rust, and other man-made stains may not be fully removable though most become significantly less visible after treatment.

Should I be concerned about my plants & landscaping?
Short answer: YES.
Roof, render and wall cleaning always carries an inherent risk to your landscaping and plant life. We can’t guarantee that some of your landscaping will not be affected by the cleaning process (and you should seriously question any exterior building cleaning contractor who does make such a guarantee…).
However…
What we do guarantee is that we’ll take every precaution to protect your plant life. We also guarantee that if something negative does happen after your cleaning service we will be there for you to help you get it rectified. In order to mitigate as much risk as possible, we use a variety of strategies to protect landscaping and plant life:
- Collection and/or diversion of run-off.
- Dilution of over spray and run off before, during and after the job.
- We apply a neutralising agent to soil and plant life where necessary.
Coverage of delicate plant life with breathable traps.
These precautions protect your plants as much as possible. In the unlikely event that you do notice any issues after service, such as wilting or browning leaves, wilting flowers, etc., please give us a call. We promise to take care of you!
Do I need to take a day off work?
Probably not
Providing we can get clear safe access to all points of the property and a water supply you can leave us to get on with it so you could go to work, do the school run or a bit of shopping and return to a clean environment.
How much does render cleaning cost?
Each cleaning project is different and many factors are taken into consideration when producing your quote.
Height, square footage, degree of black stains, is moss and/or lichen present, perimeter landscaping, accessibility, water point & pressure, etc. all need to be considered.
Only a correct inspection can fully determine the work required and with us it’s a FREE quotation with no pressure from pushy salesmen.
Do you offer partial cleaning on just the bad areas?
Yes, we can.
Nautilus SoftWash understands that certain cleaning needs may apply, such as touching up only the front visible areas to increase the curb appeal for a home for sale. But it is highly recommended to avoid a partial cleaning and treatment.
Any untreated sections most likely already have bacteria and algae spores you cannot see. These spores will travel to the treated roof sections and expedite contamination and regrowth. Therefore we do not offer the 5 year “spot free” limited warranty on partial cleanings and treatments.
Incidentally our 5 year “spot free” limited warranty is transferable if a home is sold.
What are my payment options?
We request payment made in full upon completion of work.

Nautilus SoftWash employees have completed certification training through SoftWash Systems, attended SoftWash hands on seminars and attend yearly SoftWash training events to stay current on all techniques, methods and SoftWash application methods. Nautilus SoftWash carries a £1 Million Commercial Liability Policy for your added protection and peace of mind.
Do you clean other things like playground structures, fencing and driveways?
Our SoftWash process provides fantastic results on vinyl siding, hardy siding, painted surfaces, playgrounds, pool decks, pavements, canopy tents and just about all other exterior surfaces. SoftWash cleans and brightens without the abrasive damage of a pressure-washer!

Is it guaranteed to get my render clean?
Our Safe Roof & Exterior Cleaning SoftWash System’s proven process and proprietary solutions are guaranteed to successfully remove the ugly black streaks from all types of exterior render the day of cleaning and treatment. Nautilus’s SoftWash process provides a 100% kill ratio on bacteria, algae, moss and lichen! Our exterior cleaning method cleans the render of black streaks, kills all bacteria, moss and lichen to include roots, and inhibits the return of all growth.
How do you remove green algae from render?
By Soft-Washing and in some cases, low-pressure steam.
We never use pressure washers to clean render. It is far to likely to damage the surface of the render.
Will the cleaning solution damage my plants, pets or family?
Specific plant and property protection training has been completed and protective measures are part of our everyday operating procedures!
People, plants and pets remain safe! All of our solutions are eco-friendly and biodegradable. We ask that pets and families stay in doors until our work is complete. We understand people need to come and go and this can be accomplished with just a little coordination in the work area. Pets are free to go outside as soon as our work is complete and we have cleaned-up.
Our crews are trained to do everything within their power to protect plants and property!
We pre-wet all nearby plants as a precaution and repeat as needed during the cleaning and treatment process. Plant protection by applying a proprietary plant wash containing plant nutrients and a chemical neutraliser. Applied to all nearby plants and vegetation as an added precaution once the job is complete! This plant wash and rinse is specially formulated to mitigate any potential concerns. According to our customers, there plants have never looked so good.

How much pressure do you use on my rendered walls?
Firstly, we will never use a pressure washer or high pressure on your roof or siding.
Our professional-grade system is designed to operate and deliver the application of cleaning solutions at 45 -50 psi. That’s about the strength of your garden hose or a hard rain fall. Our solutions do the work gently and as recommended by roofing manufacturers.

How good is Softwashing?
We are so confident we can impress you with the capabilities of SoftWashing, that we now offer a FREE sample clean service AFTER you have had your building cleaned by a pressure washing company. While we strongly advise against pressure washing, if your have had your walls presssure washed recently, simply call us and we will come and treat an area of about two to three square metres.
In the following months and years you will see the area we treated will still be perfectly clean, whereas the rendered surfaces which were pressure washed alone will quickly regrow thicker organic matter growth making your building look worse than before it was pressure washed.
Why is SoftWashing so good?
Because Softwashing removes more than pressure washing without causing damage
Pressure washing is very effective at removing the bulk of organic material from a rendered surface. But the process doesn’t remove all organic mater at a microbial level. Pressure washing is also a high-impact method of cleaning which can damage render by literally blasting it apart.
Additionally, the organic matter a pressure washer doesn’t remove is forced into the surface of the render. This can make it even harder to clean in future. Pressure washing can also redistribute microscopic organic matter around a rendered surface, causing it to regrow even quicker than before. In this respect, it’s similar to mowing a lawn.
Softwashing actually sanitises rendered surfaces; it removes all organic matter. This means that any future growth on the rendered surface is new growth rather than re-growth; this is why our results are so long-lasting
Is it OK to pressure wash rendered wall?
No! Please don’t!
Pressure washing can cause extensive damage to most render types. It often forces organic matter deeper into the render layer, making algae moss and lichen problems worse, rather than better. Nautilus NEVER use pressure washers to clean render.
Our trained technicians use the softwashing method to clean your render to an exceptionally high standard. Sometimes we use low-pressure steam as well to ensure your result is as clean as it can be.
